It's a kind of magic! And it truly is. The house built in 1900 in the heart of the island of Hvar was renovated in 2022 by its visionary heirs; today it is a time machine that takes its guests to times past, surely more difficult but also more humane ones.
Cottage Features
The magical cottage Hecate is located on the hills of Vrisnik, in the very heart of the island. It was built around 1900 and reconstructed from 2019 until 2022.
The interior of Hecate spans across 350 m2; it boasts a 19-square-meter pool and a 20-square-meter poolside area. There are also 7 terraces (on different levels) covering 230 m2.
There is also a small organic vegetable garden, measuring 23 m2. We all know what a source of joy and happiness a fresh tomato or salad from your own garden can be, even on vacation!!
In addition to the vacation house itself, there are also three small educational "museums" on the property – the fishermen's, the primitive kitchen, and the wine and oil old agriculture tools exhibition. The owners designed the whole concept of the property as a short story through the history of farming and fishing on the island of Hvar. You will discover old fishing tools, different types of nets, wild game, and an exhibition of shells from the Adriatic Sea. You will get to know the agricultural tools used by our ancestors and go back in time in the country kitchen with – picture this – a secret cave.
When it comes to the main property layout – on the first floor there is a kitchen with a dining room, a living room, a double bedroom, and a toilet. On the second floor, there is a bedroom with one double and one single bed, a toilet, and another bedroom, this one with a single bed. In the living room there is a sofa that can be stretched out if necessary.
There are a total of 4 bathrooms on the property, three of which have a shower tray and one with a bathtub. We also note that on one of the spacious balconies of the house you can enjoy the gentle breeze, the singing of birds, and the view of the rural fairy-tale.
When it comes to the poolside area, apart from the pool you can enjoy fresh fish directly from the grill. The pool has two additional bathrooms, an indoor and an outdoor shower, and for those who like to hide from the sun – a shaded green oasis with a swing and deckchairs. For those who like to sunbathe, there are deckchairs by the pool.
The property oozes the spirit of the past at every turn. The owners renovated all the old furniture and thus breathed new life into the old wardrobes and beds of their ancestors. Some pieces of furniture were made by the owners themselves. Get ready for the colourful interior and the warmth of natural materials.
Hecate is only a 5-minute drive away from the nearest town of Jelsa and the nearest beaches. The house is suitable for a family, but also for a group of friends – for everyone who wants to learn more about the history of Hvar and the way of life of local people in the past, but also for all lovers of rustic interiors and exteriors, lovers of returning to nature, peace, and picturesque villages.
